What to expect at your appointment
You will be checked in by our friendly receptionists.
After this an Ophthalmic Technician or Optometrist will take a history and perform some preliminary tests such as visual acuity. Depending on the condition you have been referred for the Ophthalmic Assistant may do some further testing prior to you seeing the doctor.
They will also administer the dilating drops if required.
Following this, the doctor will conduct their assessment and consultation. If required the doctor will direct the assistant to organise further testing and prepare for any necessary procedures.
Allow around two hours for your appointment – as a result of the number of different assessments that need to be undertaken your appointment can take some time. Payment should be provided on the same day as your visit.
If your eyes are dilated with drops this will affect your vision for approximately four hours. Please do not drive during this time. It’s a good idea to arrange for someone to collect you following your appointment, or consider using alternative transportation such as the train or a taxi.
Eye surgery
We will provide you with information specific to your surgery at the time of booking, including detailed instructions for care following surgery.
FAQs
For new patients, you can expect to be at the practice for approximately two hours in total. This will allow time for any paperwork to be completed, our Ophthalmic Technician’s to perform preliminary testing and to administer dilating drops. You will then have a consultation with Dr Adams.
Your pupils require dilation in order for Dr Adams to have a clear view of the back of your eye and to allow for more accurate testing.
Your vision may become blurry for a short period of time and we do not recommend driving until the effects of the drops have worn off.
Many of our patients organise for a friend/family member to bring them to their appointment for this reason.
Dr Adams aims to see patients on time once paper work, testing and dilation is complete. However, complex cases can require detailed discussion and at times we have to see emergency cases. This can occasionally result in the clinic running over schedule. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
Insight Eye Surgery is a private billing practice. With a valid referral, your visit will attract a Medicare rebate which will cover part of the cost of the consult. We are able submit the claim to Medicare on the day of your appointment on your behalf.
Private health insurance does not cover outpatient medical appointments, it only provides cover for in-hospital treatment.
When booking your initial appointment, you will be informed of the estimated cost of the appointment and associated rebate.
The cost of surgical procedures is determined by the type and complexity of the procedure, coupled with the level of your Private Health insurance cover.
As a result of these variables, staff are unable to provide an estimate of surgical costs prior to your consultation.
